MedStart 2016 students at bear statue

The MedStart 2017 application is due (must be postmarked) March, 2017, and will be made available to high school sophomores and juniors, January 2017.

Each summer, Western Montana AHEC hosts MedStart, a week-long program designed to expose rural high school students, who are low income, first-generation-college, to potential careers in the healthcare field.   Selected applicants can submit scholarship application to attend MedStart.  Five programs are hosted on Montana college campuses: Great Falls, Butte, Billings, Miles City, and Missoula.  Curriculum sessions during the week include sheep heart and/or cow eyeball dissection, blood typing, job shadowing, Sim Man (simulation mannequin) demonstration, and more.

College support sessions include a financial aid presentation, a current health profession student panel, a campus tour, and career services personality analysis. Recreation and social sessions may include attendance at sporting events, various hikes, bowling night, or river trip.  Campers are housed in dorms on the college campuses.  Applications for MedStart are made available online in January of each year; 20-30 students are selected for each campus.
