Engage in HANDS-ON activities, JOB SHADOW professionals, and earn COLLEGE credit.
AHEC welcomes participants from all backgrounds - including rural, low-income, first-generation college students, and/or underserved backgrounds - to explore healthcare careers, learn about college life, and discover their path to higher education. MedStart is a week-long summer program hosted on five Montana college campuses. It introduces students to health science career pathways, provides information on financial aid, offers hands-on experiences like job shadowing, and gives students a taste of dorm life. Applications open in January each school year, and students are asked to rank their preferred camp locations. While many people associate healthcare solely with doctors and nurses, MedStart challenges that assumption by highlighting the wide range of roles within the healthcare field.
