Western Montana Area Health Education Center's (WMT-AHEC's) Stipend for Future Health Professionals is established to support students who aspire to serve Montana communities upon graduation. This funding opportunity will be awarded to qualified health science or allied health students at UM, Missoula College or Salish Kootenai College, that reflect the dedication and desire to provide care for communities in Montana. The intent of the program is to provide support to first generation college students and/or first generation health science students. Scoring will be based on an internal eligibility review, interview, & external review.
Award Amount:
- Selected students can be awarded up to $2,000 per academic year. Amount is dependent on course load, degree program, and eligibility requirements.
- Amount will be split into two payments during the academic year.
- 50% of all stipends will be awarded to Salish Kootenai College students with the remaining 50% awarded to UM or Missoula College students.
Eligibility
- Currently attending University of Montana, Missoula College, or Salish Kootenai College
- Majoring in a health science or allied health program (Certificate, Associate, or Bachelor levels)
- Has successfully matriculated at least one semester by application deadline
- Intend to register for 6+ credits in Fall 2024
- 2.8+ GPA
Awarded Students Must:
If selected, you will be required to uphold actions to support relationship building and diverse education while receiving the stipend. Your responsibility will include:
- Enroll in AHEC Scholar Program: online learning modules to support diverse knowledge and inter-professional experience. Students will receive a nationally recognized certificate at graduation. Participation in this program will be dependent on when the student graduates and the degree program they are enrolled.
- Attend two "Support Spaces" with WMT-AHEC staff: this will ensure students are feeling supported in their programs. Networking, internship discussion, scholarship questions, etc. can be discussed and reviewed. Support Spaces will take place in October and March of the academic year.
- Submit transcripts to WMT-AHEC staff prior to the second payment distributed.
